DC Motor Regenerative Breaking

DC Motor Regenerative Breaking

DC Motor Regenerative Breaking

(OP)
Running a 250KW  separately excited DC motor with a  3 phase supply 6 Thyristors module coupled with a DC drive controller. On starting the motor  sounds like a single phasing 3  phase motor. At full speed 1000rpm if you change the button from motoring to generation that is breaking it burns fuses feeding the 3 phase AC supply. It breaks by changing the direction of field to the motor there by generating via the thyristor modules. What may the probable cause of this? What rule can i use to adjust armature current and field current to produce a smooth starting torque.
