ASME Section VIII, Div.1 Appendix UHX

Hi all,

in Appendix UHX, the expanded length of tube, ltx, is defined in terms of ASME tube-to-tubesheet joints.  How would you specifiy ltx for a TEMA tube-to-tubesheet joint where typically two grooves are used ?
Thanks.
John

RE: ASME Section VIII, Div.1 Appendix UHX

Please clarify your question.  ltx in UHX is independent of the weld or lack there of, though I see how the weld is dependent on ltx.

Hi PVGuy,

what I mean is when the tube-to-tubesheet joint is expanded into two grooves only (without the use of any welding). If you take a cross-section through the tubesheet thickness, you would have a length of diameter equal to the tube hole size, then a groove (normally 3 mm wide x 0.8 mm on dimeter bigger than the tube hole) then a 6 mm to 7 mm length which is the same diameter as the tube hole, then another groove as per the first. In simple terms, the tube-to-tubesheet joint is expanded into two grooves, there is no welding involved.
Hope this clarifies it enough.
John
