Smokes not required in elevator hoistways unsprinkled

Smokes not required in elevator hoistways unsprinkled

(OP)
NFPA 72-54 (2002) 6.15.3.6 states that smoke detectors shall not be installed in unsprinklered elevator hoistways unless they are installed to activate the eleavtor hoistway smoke relief equipment.

Three relays are now required for recall on elevators: Primary, secondary and Fire Hat which is a light inside the elevator indicating when lit that it might not be safe for a Fireman to enter the elevator because the light would indicate smoke in the elevator control rooom. The elevator would recall to the first floor if there is a fire on any other floor and recall to a different floor if there is a fire on the first floor. (check code for details)
