Transfer Dimension Values Between Similar Parts

Transfer Dimension Values Between Similar Parts

(OP)
Hello,

Does anyone know of a way to pass the dimension values of one part to another part?

Here is the scenario: I have a part, which is assembled into a larger assembly.  Per our rules, no external references are allowed when assembling parts to the main assembly.  However, external references are mighty handy when designing parts from scratch.

Anyway, if I were to copy my part and name it copypart.prt, create some external references within copypart.prt, and save it I could use copypart.prt to modify the geometry while the entire assembly design evolves.  Then once the design seems to have settled out I could transfer the dimension values from copypart.prt to orginal.prt.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Steve
