UNCOILER/COILER TENSION
UNCOILER/COILER TENSION
(OP)
I need to calculate the tension between a delector roll and a coiler. If the coiler is current controlled do I still need to consider the wrap angle.
I am developing a full middle on light gauge strip and I am wondering if my tension indication is accurate. Have checked roll set up for misalignment. Would appreciate any help

RE: UNCOILER/COILER TENSION
I've been doing drive/motor applications for over 15 years and, even today, refer wind/unwind applications to the specialists in the field.
A good integrator can make a wind/unwind stand work most excellently in a relatively short period of time where, after a huge amount of labor and time, inexperienced folks still will have very little in proper operation to show for their efforts.

gcaudill is right, you should include your wrap angle to calculate the normal force.

It is true that winders are involved and you need to understand the physics behind the process, on the other hand, it isn't rocket science and many of us taught ourselves by working with winder integrators and refining their applications.
