Problems saving/opening ACAD 2004-->2000

Problems saving/opening ACAD 2004-->2000

Problems saving/opening ACAD 2004-->2000

(OP)
We have several different programs in use here at work - and the worst BYFAR is AutoCAD 2004, nothing but problems!

Well - one of our engineers will use nothing but 2004, and the rest of us use 2000 (when using 2D software).

Well - it should be simple enough to open the drawing in 2004 and save it as a 2000 drawing.  Well, that locks up every computer we have when we try it - not just one - all of them.

Most recently I tried the Autodesk Batch DWG Converter.  That "sucessfully" converted the file to 2000 format, but when you open it in anything but 2004, you get a Fatal Error notification...Error Handled...Shuts down AutoCAD.

This is the same sitution if you try to save it as a .dxf as well.

Any ideas as to how I can get these 2004 drawing open in 2000?  IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK OF AN AUTODESK PRODUCT!??? Hehe.
Thanks in advance guys!

RE: Problems saving/opening ACAD 2004-->2000

We use AutoCAD Mechanical 6 (AutoCAD 2002) and we get files from a client using AutoCAD 2004 and saved to 2000. Same result as you - crash. Our only solution is to wblock the drawing, reopen it and then save it to 2000. A stupid solution I admit for something that AutoCAD should have worked out ahead of time. I asked in the Autodesk forum about it and they suggested upgrading to ACAD2004 (of course).

Well - I guess I am glad to know that I am not the only one.

We also primarily use Mechanical Desktop 6, and of course - like you menitioned, same problem.

When in 2D though - we just stick with regular 2000 Mechanical.

I finally got one file I was really needing to convert over and open with no problems.  Here's how:  Purge all 2x, then save as ACAD 2000 DWG and let 2004 sit there for 5 minutes while it tries to calculate that in its brain.  It worked this time - but anyone want to take a bet on the next time I try it?
