Help- Only Part template selectable.

Help- Only Part template selectable.

I got my 2003 Solidworks, and when I try and input an assembly template... there is nothing there just the part one. Also, when I try to open assemblies it doesnt recognize them. Anyone please tell me why Im only able to select a part template.

RE: Help- Only Part template selectable.

Sounds like they might be gone.  Have you searched you system for the standard files?  (*.asmdot and *.drwdot)

They should be located in Program Files > Solidworks > data > templates

Good luck.

RE: Help- Only Part template selectable.

Check the default file locations in Tools > Options > System options > File locations / Document templates ... it should point to where Theophilus states.

from (the City of) Barrie, Ontario.

Support bacteria - they're the only culture some people have

RE: Help- Only Part template selectable.

There are 2 possible locations:

1) Location suggested by Theophilus above
2) Program Files > Solidworks > lang > english > Tutorial

If you have these 2 paths in your Tools > Options > System options > File locations / Document templates

Then you need to search both areas to make sure you have your Templates.

I use a single location - I prefer the location that Theophilus suggested

The other thing is under Tools > Options > System options > Default Templates do you have your Part, Assembly, & Drawing Templates pointed out under that menu?

One other thing, I don't think this is the case but I have to ask. When you click File > New you are using Advanced and Novice correct?

Advanced - gives you the option of picking any of the tempaltes or custom templates you have made.

Novice - Makes you use the 3 Default templates that came with SW.

RE: Help- Only Part template selectable.

Reinstall or repair your SW. Depends on which install method you used WI - Repair () Traditional - Reinstall.

Same thing, part only. Wont come up.

RE: Help- Only Part template selectable.

SHotgunm,

I have seen this behavior before, if you use the novice interface and double click on the assembly button it should launch a new assembly.  When the new assembly comes up, change wahtever setting you wish to and save it as an assembly template, and save it in the appropriate directory.  I still do not know what causes this but I have seen two or three installs that this happens on.

RE: Help- Only Part template selectable.

I had the same issue with my .drwdot templates.   I found it under the tutorial folders (thanks SBaugh), but when I try to open the file I get the error "Cannot open draw.drwdot.  The system could not recognize this file".  Any thoughts?  I have already tried to reinstall without success and have also tried other drawing templates I have found on the net.

RE: Help- Only Part template selectable.

winston2003,
Check out: How do I do a clean uninstall & reinstall of Solidworks?  In FAQ’s. FAQ559-488
Install SolidWorks 2004 SP 4 and you should be able to open any template.
