SS 316 and 316L Stainless Steel Materials with high strength

SS 316 and 316L Stainless Steel Materials with high strength

(OP)
Valve Stems, Gland Eye Bolts and Pins are often required
in SS316 and SS316L meeting NACE MR0175 requirements. Due to solution annealing the mechanical properties drop down to very low limits. Can some one suggest suitable alternate materials for these applications. Minimum yield strength required is 45000 psi meeting the NACE MR0175 requirements.

RE: SS 316 and 316L Stainless Steel Materials with high strength

This is an expensive alternative...but using many of the various Inconel alloys will meet your strength requirements as well as NACE.  Be careful in your selection has only a few of these nickel alloys can be machined easily.

A quick search on the web will yield tons of information on the various alloys and their properties.

Hope this helps.

RE: SS 316 and 316L Stainless Steel Materials with high strength

Hi,
One option would be martensitic stainless steel, 17-4PH or 15-5PH. It should fulfill your strength requirements.

Try the NIDI website. they have hundreds of technical papers on stainless steel. They also have a consultancy service

RE: SS 316 and 316L Stainless Steel Materials with high strength

The ideal material is 2205, a duplex stainless steel with a high annealed yield strength and better corrosion resistance, plus resistance to stress corrosion cracking...no contest.

Also try Nitronic50 or 60
Not too expensive but good mechanical, chemical and low temp properties
