Maximum Number of Mates in a SW Assembly file

Maximum Number of Mates in a SW Assembly file

(OP)
Hi,

I was wondering what everyone uses as a good general guideline for the maximum total number of mates to have in an assembly file.  I read in one thread where someone's VAR recommends trying to stay under 300.

It seems obvious that less is better but I am interested in feedback on the subject.

Thanks,

RE: Maximum Number of Mates in a SW Assembly file

Keep your Top level mates under 300.

With parts or sub-assemblies in an assembly. I figure about 2 at least if not 3 mates to fully define (not always) per part or sub.

If you use more Sub-assemblies instead of parts, that will bring your number of top level mates down to a lower number.

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the input.  Another question if I may:

Is the 300 number something recommended to us by SW or is it more of a defacto standard based on the current prevailing wisdom?
