Does anyone know how a chemical waste treatment center treat waste acid and waste alkali?  As a chemical waste treatment center, all sorts of waste acid and alkali will be collected.  Neutralisation is one step, but it probably won't solve all the high concentration ions, salts...etc. in the effluent.

geefore, Basically the resultants of any acid+base neutralization are salts and water. After the neutralization,  a phase separation occurs removing the salts. If there are other compounds in solution with the acid or base these too must be either neutalized or removed. As for the processes involved, that is dependant on those compounds.

Thanks Saxon!  Our problem is, say when we neutralise sulphuric acid from waste battery, we get over-the-limit sulphate ion in the effluent.  Besides, we are also having trouble treating Chromium (VI) ions.

I suggest a neutralization supplier like Wastech Controls (www.wastechengineering.com)with their skid mounted systems.  They can handle acid and basic waste on a continuous basis even at high volumes and their controls are unusually friendly and allow monitoring remotely.  They can also treat for salts, sulfides, and heavy metals in a second process.

You may want to recover the acid through electrochemical means. The contaminants in the acid can be removed using ion selective membranes and a current.
