SW and AutoCAD together - (im)possible?

SW and AutoCAD together - (im)possible?

SW and AutoCAD together - (im)possible?

(OP)
The problem is, that I installed first AutoCAD 2004 and then SW. Now, if I try to open AutoCAD, it first trys to open SW Edrawings (!), and then tells me about error!? What can I do about it?

RE: SW and AutoCAD together - (im)possible?

You must correct Windows file assigments.
I don't know if this is the same for all windows versions, but try run Explorer, select Tools, Folder Options, File Type tab, select DWG file type in the list and select Autocad as the program to run it.
Now Windows assigns Autocad to files with DWG extension.

Funny that I never heard of such problem, as I know some installations like yours!

Good Luck

Thanks, macPT, but it didn't help me...! Extensions are OK, there must be something else. I put this message here, what CAD tells me: "FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0xff996600 Exeption at 63177dd5h" This is like Chinese...

RE: SW and AutoCAD together - (im)possible?

Knowledge base Article at the SW website 122869. This is also a valueable place for SW help and information if you have never used it.

Question: How can I turn off eDrawings in AutoCAD without uninstalling eDrawings?

Answer: The eDrawings loads in as an add-in under the Tools, Load Application menu. In AutoCAD, look under the Tools, Load Application and remove the 'eDrawing' reference from the list. If the eDrawing menu item still shows up in AutoCAD, this can be removed by going to the Autocad_install\Support folder and manually deleting all of the "EDW" files there (such as edw.mnc, edw.mnl, edw.mns etc). Keep in mind if you delete these files, you will have to re-install eDrawings to get it to work again.

RE: SW and AutoCAD together - (im)possible?

Just to prevent re-install of eDrawings, maybe you can zip de edw files instead of delete them. Them just unzip when you need to run eDrawings.

Never heard of this issue.

RE: SW and AutoCAD together - (im)possible?

On the install of Edrawings it does ask you if you want to install Edrawings for AutoCAD. You answer to that question no, then continue to install Edrawings. It will not install anything to AutoCAD. I tried this same install on my system and it worked fine here. My ACAD doesn't have a problem opening and Edrawings splash screen or its options are avaiable.

RE: SW and AutoCAD together - (im)possible?

I too have had similar problems but if you follow along with Scott he has the correct solution.  I have answered yes to install Edrawings for Acad, and have had problems with that install.  I ended up removing all of the programs and did again as Scott says above and all was fine from there one.

RE: SW and AutoCAD together - (im)possible?

(OP)
Well, I uninstalled eDrawings (thought, that it would be logical, that ACAD will start without problems after that), but still ACAD refuses to cooperate with me...!? What next?

RE: SW and AutoCAD together - (im)possible?

Re-install Autocad?

RE: SW and AutoCAD together - (im)possible?

Did you follow the answer above? You shouldn't have too uninstall AutcoCAD if you use the option above??

I'll post it again:

To SBaugh. I tryed everything, but at the end of the day I had to uninstall-reinstall ACAD. And now it works properly. Only every time I do this (un-, and reinstall)I need to get new authorization codes, and that's a little disturbing... But thank you anyway!
