Experience Gel Plugging Block Valves?

Experience Gel Plugging Block Valves?

Experience Gel Plugging Block Valves?

(OP)
We have 24" butterfly valves that pass (leak) in our underground firewater system.  I'm interested in learning from the experience of others their successes and failures applying gel plugs upstream of passing valves to get them to seal for the purpose of doing maintenance downstream.

What Gel should be used in water?

What is its' longevity?

How close to the passing valve should it be applied if using a hot top point to inject it into the leak point?

Are there limits on the amount of flow to use to draw the gel into the leaking valve?

What confidence level can one have that it will provide a positive isolation for workers opening the line downstream after it's sealed?

I'd appreciate other 1st hand experiences as well.  Thanks,
