Increase Engine Life?

(OP)
What are the most important things that you can do to increase engine life?

RE: Increase Engine Life?

Mgtsciences:

Besides following engine maintenance procedures to the letter, run the cleanest fuel you can afford!

Orenda

RE: Increase Engine Life?

In addition to Orenda 1168's suggestion:
1. Always operate the engine within the design parameters and under conditions for which it was intended.
2. Utilize the best lubricants available
3. Install a condition monitoring system
4. Go the extra mile for top notch maintenance

RE: Increase Engine Life?

Have an electrical prelube pump to prepressurize the engines oiling system.
Have a good oil cleaning system. And follow a good oil change program.
Don't extract full design Horse power.
Run at lower rpms, and lower power settings.
Avoid idling for long periods.
Avoid starting and stopping.
No hot shut downs.
Proper warm up before extracting power.
Do not over rev.
Just things to add to the other suggestions.

RE: Increase Engine Life?

enginebob,
I just wish I could teach my wife those guidelines.

I was just discussing a prelube system I put one on a Blue Flame Chevrolet Engine.
It was an accumulator tied into an oil port on the block through a homemade check valve/orifice that opened at 10 lbs to fill the accumulator.  The return to the engine was by a modified fuel cutoff switch (hooked to the ignition switch) that allowed oil flow to high side of the oil pump.
