Two Way RC Slab With Concentrated Load

Two Way RC Slab With Concentrated Load

Two Way RC Slab With Concentrated Load

What is acceptable method to design two way slab for a concentrated load? Slab is 12'x15' continuous, with reinforced concrete walls along 12' span and concrete beams along 15' span. Does anybody have a good method of distributing a point load to two spans and any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

RE: Two Way RC Slab With Concentrated Load

I would suggest using a good FEM program to analyze this condition.

RE: Two Way RC Slab With Concentrated Load

"Reinforced Concrete", by James MacGregor, has a section on yield-line theory as applied to two-way slabs with concentrated loads.  I have used this technique for concentrated loads on two-way slabs.

thank you both for your inputs.
jike, would STAAD be a good FEM program?
jec67, is book helpful enough so I wouldn't need to use FEM program, does it have examples, aids or it is theoretical only?

RE: Two Way RC Slab With Concentrated Load

MacGregor's book does not require use of a computer.  The book contains both the theory and application of the technique to "real life" examples.

RE: Two Way RC Slab With Concentrated Load

I am not familiar with Staad. I use Visual Analysis. A simple problem can usually be set up, modeled and analyzed in a matter of a couple of minutes.

I am sure there are other FEM programs available.

RE: Two Way RC Slab With Concentrated Load

STAAD would be a good fit for this job as they could design the walls, columns, beams and slab. They can autmaotically distribute the floor loading as well to the edge beams.

Thank you all for grate inputs. I’ll do it in staad but will probably get the book too.

RE: Two Way RC Slab With Concentrated Load

As you know that methods of design 2ways slab support the uniform distributed load are available in most handbook or design code. What I wonder that should we find the way to convert the point load to UDL? That should be more practical then?
