Resid viscosity determination
Resid viscosity determination
(OP)
Lab results of assay of particlar crude I am analyzing does not include viscosity at 122oF of the resid, i.e, 1025+ cut. What is the best way to determine the implied viscosity of the 1025+ resid @ 122oF?
Viscosity @ 122 oF of different cuts from 374 oF to 1025, whole crude, and 650+ are available.

This is a spreadsheet for determining viscosity at different temperatures for hydrocarbons.
It works very well with bitumens and asphalts, so don't worry about it being pre-set with heavy fuel oil data.
If you have the lab results at two different temperatures for some samples, simply load this data in.
For your unknow fluid where you have only one viscosity/temperature pair you need to experiment with different values at a second temperature until you get good values for the A & B constants.
Whether or not the fluid is actually solid at 122degF or not is imaterial to the prediction using these curves.
If you have any problems (e.g. the answer overflows the column) come back to me and i will sort it ut for you).

thanks a lot! How do I increase the width of the columns?
How do I change the scale of the Y axis?

You don't have to answer my previous question. I calculated the viscosities outside of your model using your formula and got the answers I needed. They are pretty close to my earlier calculations. Thanks a lot!

my appologies, you need to download it again.
It now has column format enabled so you can adjust the column width accordingly.
The graph is not protected so you double click just below or to the left of the axis you want to change which should bring up the dialogue box.
