Proper age hardening time and temperature for aa6082 Al Alloy

Proper age hardening time and temperature for aa6082 Al Alloy

(OP)
What's optimum aging procedure for aa6082 and mechanical properties which will acheive?

RE: Proper age hardening time and temperature for aa6082 Al Alloy

The AA 6082 is a European Aluminum alloy. I have included two web sites that provide some background, including available tempers O, T1, T4, T5 and T6 for AA 6082.

www.alcoa.com/adip/catalog/pdf/Extruded_Alloy_6082.pdf

The Aloca file does not have heat treatment specs.

The other web site is one that I use to track down Aluminum alloy compositions/properties;

http://aluminium.matter.org.uk/aluselect/06_composition_browse.asp

I believe you may have to obtain a copy of the British Standard 6082 or check with the European Aluminium Association to determine specific solution and aging heat treatment specifications for this alloy.

RE: Proper age hardening time and temperature for aa6082 Al Alloy

Solution treatment is usually 530-540 C for 30 minutes minimum.  Aging treatment varies, with temperatures ranging from 125-160 C and times ranging from 1 hour to several days (~ 200 hours).  I agree with metengr that ALCOA or the EAA would be good sources of further information.
