locate a component of an assembly

I have an assembly and I want to find out the exact location of a component. Is there a quick way to get this? I am not using Pro/Intralink. The assembly components are in diffrent folders.
Thanks!

RE: locate a component of an assembly

Hi Ediushu,

Go to the model tree and click on binoculars. On the search panel find the Model Name and set the value. Click on the ADD button and then select the Filter tree. Proe Will update the model tree and will give the right locations of your component.

Maybe there is something that I am not doing right or I was misunderstood. My assembly is made out of about 60 components. These are residing in different folders on my hard drive. I need to find the path (on my hard drive) of one of these components. I know I can open the part I need from the assembly but I can't figure out where I picked it up from when I create the assembly. At the time I actually wrote all the search_path for all components in config.pro, but is taking too long to search in config.pro.
I am using a Pro/E wildfire.

RE: locate a component of an assembly

Hi Ediushu,

Search for the model name through windows find files.  If the part is an instance, than do a replace command, this will tell you the generic name (top one), then do a search for the generic name on your hard drive.

Thanks Tofflemire. I thought there is an easyer way within Pro/E.

Try looking at your trailfile, I think it shows the path that each of the components were loaded from when you open the assembly.

you could also do a save and use an advanced search on windows specifying .prt.* name and time range of last modification.

RE: locate a component of an assembly

What you need to do is set the config.pro setting:

DISPLAY_FULL_OBJECT_PATH to "YES".

Now when you open a file, the full directory path is shown on the ProE window. For assemblies, select INFO > MODEL and SCREEN (or text file). Now the full directories of each part are shown.

Hi
Please let me know about pro/e on xp.
An assembly that opens in 4 minutes with search paths on nt opens in 2 hours on xp.
