preload tension in a UNJ bolts
preload tension in a UNJ bolts
(OP)
hi,
i need to know how to calculate the preload tesion in a bolt connecting 2 plates. My problem is that one of the plates is subjucted to loads that would cause shear in the bolt. How do I translate it to preload? Is it simply by using the equation F=(miu)N? (miu = friction factor) (is it friction factor per square feet multiplied by connecting area?)
How do I evaluate this friction factor? (the 2 plates are different materials and the bolts is a 3rd one...)
Anyhow, I think I must also assume that the preload fails, and i have to check that the bolts are capable to carry the shear loads without being subjected to preloading at all.
any guidence, tips and names of good books on the subject are welcomed!
