Dims between two views

Dims between two views

Dims between two views

(OP)
The following is probably very easy for the vets but not for me:

Is there a way to put a dimension between the same item but shown in two different views on the DRAWING ??

Explanation: Assy has two different configs - Default and Max Travel. Cosequently a certain Roll is in two different locations (Travel).

On Assy Dwg I did put those two Different Views (both are Side Views) on top of each other (Views Aligned Horizontaly by Origin).

Everything looks nice and dandy - except it would not let me put dim between the Roll because "both" Rolls are in two different views (it is actualy the same Roll but in two different DRAWING views)

I would not like to do any "cheating" - that is I would like to be a "true" dims, so if I change location on the Roll in "Travel Config", the next time I open the dwg the dim will change accordingly.

RE: Dims between two views

You may want an "Alternate Position" view, which superimposes one assembly configuration view on top of another.  This is the only case where SW allows dimensioning between views.

Due to illness, the part of The Tick will be played by... The Tick.

RE: Dims between two views

I agree with TheTick. I have used it with good results to show the max/min stroke of hydraulic cylinders.
Earlier versions did have a problem with the dimension to the "extended" configuration. When re-opening the drawing, this dimension would revert to the "retracted" equivalent.
This was fixed, but I don't remember if it occurred at the 2003 or 2004 level.
