Best material to absorb 940nm IR

Best material to absorb 940nm IR

Attempting to find a material, paint etc. best suited to absorb Infrared around the 940nm wavelegnth. Source is from commonly available IR LED used for all types of transmiters.

Did you need some beyond Krylon 1602 Ultra-flat Black?

What is your requirement?

That should do well to start. Basically have a beam directivity descriminator (fins) that will prevent spurious and off-axis emission detection. I would like to apply absorbing material to the fins to assure minimal reflection into the receiver.

Then that's probably the best available choice, particularly if you're on a budget and/or it's a one-shot deal.

Your choice of the word fins is a little disturbing.  Are you refering to baffles that are perpendicular to the primary line of sight of the detector?  If not, there are almost no materials that are not somewhat specular at shallow grazing angles.

You need to determine the field of view that you need or want and the apply baffles appropriately.

Thank for your advise! Yes the baffles are aligned perpendiclar to the detector, preventing signal from reaching the detector except in one plane.

My concern was the baffles may have significant contribution to reflectance of marginally (fractions of a degreee) off-axis signals but as you say glancing signals will always have some reflectance on a treated surface.

On another note, is there a "high Intensity" version of the commonly used 940nm LED's used for all kinds of RC electronics like television and VCR/DVD remotes?

Not sure about that specific wavelength, but there are a number of similar wavelengths where diode arrays exist, as well as similar wavelengths where laser diodes exist
