Matching colours of parts

Matching colours of parts

Matching colours of parts

(OP)
I want to match the exact colour of part A to part B. I first open part A and add its colour to new colour swatch. Next, I open part part B and apply the colour just added to the swatch. When I compare the numeric values for the RGB and HSV settings, both parts, as expected, are equal - however their appearance on the screen is different.
Comparing the slider positions for each of the optical properties shows that the parts have different settings. From this I conclude that optical properies are not saved in the swatch - correct? If so, can the optical settings for a part be saved elsewhere? Rather than relying on comparing the relative positions of each of the sliders can a numerical value for each of the optical properties be found anywhere?

RE: Matching colours of parts

I belive what you want to do is select both part A and B, then apply the color value. You can select multiple parts from the tree by doing a Ctrl + select. I hope this helps.

That is correct.

As far as I know ... only in a part template. Any number of lights & their settings can be pre-set to be applied when that template is used.

I'm using SW2004 & it has a numerical value next to each of the slider bars. What version are you using?

CorBlimeyLimey,
I'm using SWX2004 sp3. At the bottom of the "Color & Optics" dialogue box the optical properties area only has sliders for each of the 6 settings (transparancy, ambience, diffusion, specularity, shininess, emissivity). I can see no associated numerical values. Is there a setting somewhere which gives you access to the numerical values?

RE: Matching colours of parts

Ahah, sorry, we are talking about different things here. I interpreted your question as though you were referring to the lighting settings.

In the Feature Manager, expand the Lighting folder then double click on whatever lights are listed. Then you will see the settings of each type of light which has been applied to the part or assy.

After re-reading your post I see what you are trying to do ... but unfortunately do not have an answer for you. If you created the parts using the same ".prtdot" template, then the optical properties should be identical ...  unless you are using different material properties.

RE: Matching colours of parts

Be sure that under "Favorite" that something else isn't picked like "dull" or "Shiny".

Check your lighting between each part. Lighting can and ambient light can really throw a color off even if they are the same color.

Optical properties is a slider and that's the only choice you get, so get them close.

CBL - I get numerical values for my color, but not for the optical properties below color.
