Part color

Part color

Part color

(OP)
I changed the color of parts in part level, but it doesn't reflect in the assembly level.
Anybody know how to fix this??

Thanks-

Uka

RE: Part color

Check the FAQ I believe Scott just posted one on this subject.

RE: Part color

(OP)
Well.... I removed all color, but it still doesn't change color...

RE: Part color

Is the part a configuration with different colours per config? If so are you showing the correct config in the assy?

from (the City of) Barrie, Ontario.

If you choke a smurf,   what color does it turn?

RE: Part color

Do you have a color assigned to the component at the assembly level?

RE: Part color

(OP)
I didn't assign the color in the assembly level, I only did so in the part level.... This part has only one configuration...

It changes the color for a little bit, and if I zoom in a different part of the assembly and zoom back to previous view, the color is back to whatever the color was before...

Maybe bug??

RE: Part color

Are you using a SW certified graphics card & driver?

from (the City of) Barrie, Ontario.

If you choke a smurf,   what color does it turn?

RE: Part color

(OP)
I didn't know there is such a thing.
Where can I get the list of certified equipment??

Thanks -

Uka

RE: Part color

I don't think this would be considered a graphics card issue but you should be using the correct Driver for the card you are using. You should also be using a card that is in the green, so the card isn't the main blame of the problem.

1) I have assembly open
2) I RMB the part and click on Appearance
3) I give it a new color
4) The part shows this new color instead of the part color
5) To remove that color
    a) I RMB the part
    b) Click on Appearance
    c) Click Remove

    or

    d) RMB click
    e) Properties
    f) Color
    g) Remove Color
    h) Ok all the way out to the assembly
6) Either way the part returns to it's part color.

How did you apply the color to the part? Is it by feature(s) or by the part itself?

To Clarify procedure:

Did you select all or some of the features and apply the color? or, Did you select the Part name in the FM and select appearance? or did you go to Tools\Options\Document properties\Colors\Shading and change it there?

FAQ731-376

RE: Part color

(OP)
I selected part name on top of the FMT, not by the feature when changing color. I picked "edit color" tool after selecting the name, and select the color I want to use.

First colors were applied to each feature in the assembly level, so I removed all color in the assembly, thinking that the part will show in the same color as in the part leve.

Even when I 'remove color', the part doesn't change color at all...

RE: Part color

Maybe resetting the color in the assembly and in the part documents to their defaults would do the trick?  Are you seeing this within one particular assembly or with everything?

Tools>Options>Document Options>Colors, then hit the reset all to SolidWorks defaults button.

Hope something works,

RE: Part color

You have remove the volor from the features at the assembly level. Then the part color should come back. Somwhere in your assembly you have added a color to the part and until that color is removed then that part will show up in that color.

What version of SW are you using?

Try placing the part back into that assembly and into a new one and see if the part coloe comes in correctly.

RE: Part color

(OP)
I removed all the color in the both assembly and part level, and applied a color to a whole part in the part level.

I am going to start from scratch.
This time I will start with parts with final colors.

Thanks

Uka

PS I am using SW2001 sp3.0

I may well be wrong ... but I still think it may be a card/driver issue! Have you checked whether your card is "approved" yet?

A quick test is to turn your hardware acceleration down to "None":-

RMB your Desktop & select Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot then drag the slider bar over to None. This effectively turns the hardware acceleration off.

If your colours behave correctly after doing this, then your problem is the graphics/video card & or driver. Try upgrading the driver to the latest version. If that doesn't work you will have to upgrade your card.

If the colours do not behave correctly then yes, it may be a bug & you may want to consider a SW version upgrade. (which would be a good idea anyway ... SW04 is waaaay better than SW01)
