Dear All,

During the pile driving, some of piles might be installed out-of-plumbness or out-of-batterness given in specifications, e.g., 1/50.

Could somebody give me some idea to evaluate the as-built pile capacity on deviated piles, e.g., 1/40 or less to its plumbness or batterness?

I normally don't get concerned until the out-of-plumb condition exceeds 1 in 10...

Generally 1/50 might be acceptable for normal piling work. In my case, 1/100 has been adopted for stringent structures.

Any how, could you recommend me how do i evaluate the deviated piles, e.g., pile capacity and pile stress itself for the case of out-of-plumbness?

Who wrote the specifications?  Did they have a good reason for saying the piles had to be within xx?  If they had a good reason then they should be able to evaluate the piles that are out of the spcification and determine if additional piles are needed as a result.  If they did not have a good reason then they have created a problem for themselves, the contractor, the owner and everyone else.  The quicker they admit their mistake, not having a good reason, the better for all.

Dear All,

Still do i wait the response what is the matter if the plumbness is out of specification for vertical piles and if the batter is out of specification for raked piles.

Is there any reference on this matter?

I sure agree with the comments so far, especially if the battered piles are occasional, within interior groups, and the structural engineer can't justify the spec beyond the need to having to document a modification of pile-cap and gradebeam rebar details. With long, densely grouped piles, tips can converge with opposing batters, but not at 50:1. Usually that sort of thing happens when an earlier generation of piles were removed during demolition of an earlier building. Your situation re specs, is, saddly, too common. I'd enjoy hearing how this gets resolved.
