RE: 300 TON TOP RUNNING CRANE

According to the Whiting Crane handbook, for 300 ton crane with the follwoing qualifiers:

1. Span of 70 feet (nothing in the span range that you asking for)
2. Has 50 to auxiliary crane
3. Based on C class service
4. Crane can be pendant or cab controlled.

The weight of the trolley 170,000 pounds
The weight of the Crane is 390,000 pounds
Wheel load 100,000 pounds without impact!!
The required rail is 175 pounds (this is pounds per yard!!!)
I have various dimensional facts that would be required for building clearances, etc.

This handbook is very valuable and it is out of print. Give me you e-mail address and I will be happy to fax you the data sheet.

I hope this helps.

RE: 300 TON TOP RUNNING CRANE

Whiting is a good place to start for a very generic estimate of loads, but the best information will be from your crane manufacturer.  If it is an existing crane, they will have all the data.  For a new crane talk to some of the prospective bidders.  Trolley loads for new cranes are usually much lighter than those listed in Whiting Handbook.

RE: 300 TON TOP RUNNING CRANE

RockEngineer is absolutely correct and agree with his statement. I failed to mention about making the call to the crane manufactures.

Keep in mind that 300-ton cranes are not built everyday. The largest crane that I ever worked on is a 500-ton crane with about 100-foot span with couple of auxiliaries.

Thanks to all, have located a whiting crane book.  Had no information in our engineering library on this so sort of in deep water. Have done some 200 to 540 ton cranes over the years but has been a while. Wish some manufacture would put this on line.  Kranco has some good material but does not publish it anymore, you have to call and ask a rep. so they can find where the crane is going for sales use.

Started to e mail one of you guys but did not know how on this site to find the e mail address.

Wishing all the best for the holidays.
