ALUMINIUM AND LOW T¦

I would like to find mechanical charateritics at minus
196°C for :

alloy A 356 T6
BS 1400 AB2

Thanks for your help

RE: ALUMINIUM AND LOW T¦

Although not directly answering your question ....

Aluminum does not undergo any phase tranformations below room temperature, like steel do. So there is no ductile to brittle phase transformation. So the mechanical properties of your aluminum alloy should be similar to it's room temperature properties.

According to the ASM Handbook, here are some properties at -195 °C:

Sand cast test bars:

Ultimate tensile strength 275 MPa
Tensile yield strength 193 MPa
Fracture strain 0.035

Gravity die cast test bars:

Ultimate tensile strength 330 MPa
Tensile yield strength 220 MPa
Fracture strain 0.05

Cory
