Protective coating for RO skid frame

Protective coating for RO skid frame

Protective coating for RO skid frame

(OP)
Hi!

I have been told that epoxy powder coating is a good protective coating for a seawater reverse osmosis skid frame made of either aluminum or welded carbon steel?  If that is correct, how is it applied (electrostatic, baked, etc.); or is there another coating which will provide better protection?

Thanks!

RE: Protective coating for RO skid frame

Powder coat - when properly applied - can be bulletproof in a lot of corrosion applications. The part is chemically cleaned (multi-step)then the powder is applied electrostatically in a clean room environment. The part then goes in a bake oven which melts the powder and fuses it to the substrate. Works best on parts with No sharp corners or edges which will thin the coating. Multiple coats (prime/color/clear) can be done also and many colors are available.
Watch castings and other materials that could outgas during the bake cycle as this will create pits in the coating.

Is this a one-off or several?
If this is a one-off powder coating is the way to go, but there are alternatives like zinc primer, epoxy, and a urethane top coat or a one coat coal tar epoxy system if it is allowed.

Make sure you get everything straight with the applicator for any system you choose.
