Did I get the wrong video card..?

Did I get the wrong video card..?

Did I get the wrong video card..?

(OP)
I just had a new Quadro FX 500 put in my dual cpu workstation. The only benifit Iam seeing right now is the rendering is a little faster. Other than that Iam not seeing a big quality jump. Should I have asked for the FX 1000 or 3000 instead? This card only has 128 mb on board.

RE: Did I get the wrong video card..?

Make sure you have the following nVidia Quadro FX 500 drivers installed for the OS you are using:

WinXP     6.14.10.4403
Win2K     6.14.10.5303

I think if you went through the trouble of building a dual-processor box, you should have spent the extra money on a FX 1000 or higher.  You would have probably seen better performance gains from a higher-end graphics card than a dual-processor set-up.

RE: Did I get the wrong video card..?

Scott, you mean that when a driver for a videocard is approved officially by SW I am not using it at my own risk? Will SW pay for my loss if anything goes wrong with the card or its driver?

RE: Did I get the wrong video card..?

Bocephus,

IMHO - should've stayed with the single processor and gone with the high end video card.  Then if you had money left over bought another stick of RAM.

RE: Did I get the wrong video card..?

SW approves certain drivers for certain cards. If you are using a driver that SW Doesn't approve of then... I guess in some weird way... yes you are "Using it your own risk"

RE: Did I get the wrong video card..?

There are no problems using cards/drivers that aren't certified by SW. It just means that you will not receive support from SW if you run into problems with them. :)
