Parts wont rebuild

(OP)
6 parts in my assembly will not rebuild. They were built in the assembly (the edges are dimensioned from other parts) and always have the rebuild symbol beside them. I can't open the drawing for it either. When loading it gets stuck right at the end but it doesn't lock up my computer. The task manager shows Solidworks as 'running'. I've tried it on other computers but it still doesn't work.

RE: Parts wont rebuild

If you have not saved the parts, save them now. Open each part in SolidWorks, then open your assembly and do a reload.
I am just throwing out ideas.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Thanks. Actually I just suppressed the parts then opened the drawing. That worked but the parts still need to be reloaded.

RE: Parts wont rebuild

Have you tried Ctrl-Q (forced rebuild)?

If a Ctrl-Q doesn't work (per Tick's Suggestion) Then to me, it sounds like you have circular reference of in-contexted geometry. The only fix is to break the links or some of the links and redo your in-contexted geometry. But this time pay close attetion to what is incontexted and how many times you in-context what. In the past I used to put a piece of paper next to me on my desk and write down what I in-contexted so that a way I don't get confused later.

Good idea. Thanks that worked. I just broke the part down to its original sketch then re-did the extrude.

RE: Parts wont rebuild

Not to be critical of anybody's way of doing CAD, but this seems to be a clear cut case of how Top Down Modeling can cause problems when design parameters are not set.

I'm currently using Pro/E which provides an option called Skeleton Models.  These Skeleton Models are critical design interfaces which control design intent especially in Top-Down assembly techniques.

I use to only adhere to the Bottoms-up approach until I started using Pro/E.  Because I encountered some sloppy modeling techniques by a previous engineer, which corrupted a lot of data taking weeks to recover.  I guess I can't stress capturing design intent from the beginning of a project.  In my humble opinion Healthy MCAD data can only be achieved when strict design guidlines are followed anything less you're asking for trouble.
