Auto-darkening helmets - Opinion

Auto-darkening helmets - Opinion

Auto-darkening helmets - Opinion

(OP)
Hello,
I am currently shopping for a variable shade auto-darkening mask.
Do you have an opinion on these masks and modules?
- Optrel: Satellite
- Jackson/EQC: Executive Series (module), Master Series, Professional Series or NexGen
- Speedglass: 9002V or 9002X

Thank you,
Frank

RE: Auto-darkening helmets - Opinion

I use the Jackson NexGen.  I didn't check out the Optrel, but comapred all the other biggies.  I'm sure you've read all the specs on all the helmets so there's no need to compare standard features (switching times, available shades, etc.)

I'm quite satisfied with the shade selection on the NexGen, particularly the availability of the 5 shade for OAW and torch / plasma cutting.  Pay attention to sensitivity adjustments, i.e. you really have to turn sensitivity all the way up for low amperage (~25 A) GTAW to avoid flash, but just looking at a light bulb will switch to dark when it's up that high.  I've had a slight problem with fogging when I'm working in really tight spaces, but it's usually my safety glasses that fog up before the helmet lens.

The only other thing is that I haven't quite dialed in the right tension on the headgear screws (it's relatively new, not even a dozen hrs. yet) to where I can flip it down with a nod, but that should go away with time and use.

RE: Auto-darkening helmets - Opinion

I have been using a rig by ArcOne for several years now and have found them to do very well.  In fact I ordered a new dial-a shade a few months ago and am well satisified with it.

Good luck

Lee

RE: Auto-darkening helmets - Opinion

I really like the Jackson 3N1. I didn`t like the orange lense color of the nextgen, but Jackson makes the best lenses sold. I`ve been useing them for many years.
