Software for short circuit calculation
Software for short circuit calculation
(OP)
I need a software for calculation of short circuit currents in distribution network. Is there any program where I can besides the impedance voltage enter other data about transformer (no-load/load losses, no-load current). I need this to analyze how these parameters affect the results.
Thanks, zelvica

RE: Software for short circuit calculation
1) Power Technologies Inc. (PTI) software, now under a different name. This software in its earlier versions was used by the utility companies. Links:
www.pti-us.com, or for product info directly http://www.shawgrp.com/PTI/company/brochures/SS13_SoftwareProducts.pdf
2) EDSA software, we use it for protection calculations; I think they have developed some features for short-circuit calculations, too, but I'm not so sure and unfortunately I cannot check right now, sorry about that. See www.edsa.com
RE: Software for short circuit calculation
If your looking for how these parameters affect the short circuit currents flowing through a transformer you need to analyze how these parameters affect impedance values from a design perspective. Transformer design and modelling software is what you should be looking for, the type of thing manufacturers use for their design.
RE: Software for short circuit calculation
At the company we always use DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
It has a very detailled modelling of every element of the power system.
In the case of the transformers, it considers the parameters you mentioned.
You may take a look: www.digsilent.de

. ETAP, by OTI - www.etap.com
. NEPLAN - www.neplan.ch
. LAKU and NetDraw (use google for it) there are commercial and non-commercial versions.
with using the "search" option in eng-tips, you can find some previous threads on this matter.

///Normally, the above mentioned parameters are neglected since the calculations have various constants and multipliers being used that are much bigger than the mentioned and sought calculation refinement impact on the calculation results.\\\

SKM Powertools does this in its model
You can enter transformer data in a number of ways, if you have the voltage impedance you can enter this together with the X/R ratio, the load losses, no-load losses depending on which values you have.
Alternatively (at the risk of being shot down in flames), you could use generic values from manufacturers which generally give an acceptable degree of accuracy provided that you use appropriate data (ie, if you are using AN/AF dry type then use generic data for a transformer of this type and rating).
Dapper does have a database of generic tranformer data but it is somewhat limited.
I have also used Digsilent which is an excellent tool.
