Hi everyone,
I have a tank that has to be constructed to API 620 and don't have the API books because 99% of our work in ASME sectI & sect VIII. My question is how do you calculate the thickness an O.D. on a 22"(pipe size) manway cover that is 304 stainless steel and the tank is 17'-0 high and 8'-6" O.D.. Any help would be appricated
                                           Thanks

RE: API 620 Manway Cover

I don't have my API-620 available to me just now, but I hate to see such a question go unanswered.  So from memory...  API-620 max pressure is 15 psig, but manhole flanges and covers are designed for a minimum of 50 psig.  API-620 is pretty light on flange design procedures, but from what I recall it's much the same process as ASME VIII.

Thanks Steve,
With sect VIII I come up with 28"o.d. x .500 tk. 40-1/2" bolts. I just wanted to see if I can get away with a lighter (.375)thickness under API620. Appriciate the response.
