inserting dxf file into Word doc

inserting dxf file into Word doc

inserting dxf file into Word doc

(OP)
Creating a manual and need to insert a .dxf into a Word document - received the .dxf fm an engineer, but can't click/copy/paste, nor can I open it as I do not have AutoCAD on my computer.

I can import the .dxf into CorelDraw but it's a squishy little indecipherable object.  I would like to export it from CorelDraw as a .pcx which apparently does not have to be opened - just click, copy, paste into the Word doc.

Got help?

RE: inserting dxf file into Word doc

I bought a program called Quick View Plus that opens many graphic file (including .dxf I think-there are problems with different versions of .dxf).  You can also convert to different file formats.

Another program is HiJack (SP-maybe Hyjack) that may be better.

RE: inserting dxf file into Word doc

Try getting the engineer to export the file as a .wmf (windows meta file) format.  He/she may have to look into varying the technique used to select the graphics in order to get a reasonably good rendering of curves for the imported file to look ok.

You will probably find that there are no good ways to get a clean graphic from AutoCad to Word.

RE: inserting dxf file into Word doc

Change the background to white and cut and paste. Sizing can be a little tricky, other than that it seems to work good.

RE: inserting dxf file into Word doc

You could also ask the engineer to export the drawing in a "bmp" format which some versions of AutoCAD will do.

RE: inserting dxf file into Word doc

If you have Adobe AcrobatPro you can do it that way. First get Voloview Express, a free viewer available from AutoDesk (the AutoCAD people). This will allow you to view and print the drawing, just not modify it. Then, if you have the pdf creator, you just tell Voloview to print to the pdf. Once you have the pdf, open it with Acrobat and use the Snapshot tool around the drawing to place it on the clipbord. Go to the Word Document and Paste it. It becomes a Word Object imbedded in the document. You cannot edit it, so be sure that is what you want.

BTW, you can't do this with the free version of Acrobat Viewer, you need the full AcrobatPro version that creates .pdf files.
