Reliability of Mineral Insulated Heat Trace Splice

Reliability of Mineral Insulated Heat Trace Splice

Reliability of Mineral Insulated Heat Trace Splice

(OP)
I have a large (over 300ft) section of 16-30" process line with failed mineral insulated electrical heat trace which lasted 20 years before failing (shorting/openiong).

To save money, we obvioulsy want to find out exactly where the shorts/opens are and replace just that section, instead of buying a whole new run and removing/replacing all that insulation.

This will require at the most two splices (my trigger point for replacing the whole length) after we cut it and megger it.

How reliable are mineral insulated electrical heat trace splices?
