Generator kVAR Sharing

Generator kVAR Sharing

(OP)
I have an application that involves paralleling two sections of diesel generators.  Here are the details:

"A" Section - 5 x 750 kW, 2.4kV, 60Hz

"B" Section - 5 x 500 kW, 480V, 60Hz

Each separate section utilizes the following load sharing:

Real Power - isochronous governor control with analog load sharing lines connected to Woodward 2301A controllers.

Reactive Power - reactive differential (cross-current) analog load sharing lines connected to Basler voltage regulators.

My specific question centers on reactive load sharing with paralleled units from both sections.  Since the alternator voltage levels are different, I realize that the cross-current lines between the sections cannot be directly connected.  I am assuming that some form of a VAR controller needs to be implemented that would control the signal on each separate cross-current loop.

Any recommendations and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

RE: Generator kVAR Sharing

If the CT ratios are selected such that the secondary currents are all the same at full load, you shouldn't have a problem. All burden resistor should approximately match.
