Does anyone know how to fix imported cylindrical parts???...

Can someone please help me...I have imported a cylindrical part and the surface has came in as 30 faces...Does anyone know how to fix this and make it one surface again???... Thanks

thanks scott...i went to your site (which is great and a wonderful, helpful resourse center) and watched the vids, but i still cant fix my part...i tried the knitting command and could not get it to group...i have hundreds of these parts to import and fix...i have uploaded an example part, if anyone has a few seconds and can figure it out...thanks...

my ftp site is:

ftp://ftp.ntsuperbikes.com/BACN10GH3A16-52.sldasm

thanks...

RE: Does anyone know how to fix imported cylindrical parts???...

any parts for this assembly file?

RE: Does anyone know how to fix imported cylindrical parts???...

(OP)
no...it is just a 1 piece assy...

RE: Does anyone know how to fix imported cylindrical parts???...

You still need to post the one part file component to complete the assembly.

RE: Does anyone know how to fix imported cylindrical parts???...

It might be a one part assembly, but without the "One part" it does us no good. Just upload the part and I'll take a look at it.

If you save the assembly as a part, that would work too.

RE: Does anyone know how to fix imported cylindrical parts???...

(OP)
ok...the part is there now...it is called:

_SOL3_SOLM-7.sldprt

thanks

RE: Does anyone know how to fix imported cylindrical parts???...

Try saving your assembly as a part. It will make easier for us to see it.

The part & assy is already easily downloadable from the ftp site.

from (the City of) Barrie, Ontario.

Everyone has a photographic memory. Some just don't have film.

RE: Does anyone know how to fix imported cylindrical parts???...

(OP)
nevermind the assy file...you can just use the part file:

ftp://ftp.ntsuperbikes.com/_SOL3_SOLM-7.sldprt

when you open the part it asks you to do "feature recon", so i do...and end up with 30 faces around the cylinder...

RE: Does anyone know how to fix imported cylindrical parts???...

It askes you that because you have Feature works on. Try turning that Add-in off and bringing it in. I did and it came in as an Imported Solid.

FeatureWorks cannot turn it into a solid because it can't solve for something. So that's why you get 30 surfaces.

Do you have the original parasolid, or whatever, file you imported to SW?

Interesting kettle of fish.  All of the surfaces are planar facets.  Must be the settings on the sender's side.

I posted a model showing how to use Replace Face to change faces.  Lots of Delete Face features to remove split faces.  When done, you may wish to export/reimport to get rid of all the "fixit" features.

Due to illness, the part of The Tick will be played by... The Tick.

It is easier to take measurements and re-model this...or model right over it without merging results and then getting rid of the original body. It is more hassle than it is worth to delete the surfaces and use the surface tools to repair this.  Just a very poor export.

ok...thanks guys...i have hundreds of these types of parts...and this was the easiest of them...so, i am going to just try and get with my vendor and try to get better models...thanks to everyone...i will keep checking in to see if anyone have found another way...thanks again...

You may want to look at Rhino @ http://rhino3d.com . It is very good at importing surfaces and interfaces well with SW.
Price is $895 but if you have hundreds of files it may be worth it. They have a trial version that allows 30 saves if you want to check it out.
