How to connect wood diaphragm to concrete slab

How to connect wood diaphragm to concrete slab

(OP)
I am working on a multi story residential building in California, Seimic Zone 4, 2001 CBC.  The first level is a 2 way concrete slab supported on concrete columns and CMU walls.  At the second level, half the area is wood framing while the other half is concrete slab.  The upper 3 levels are wood framing.  My question is regarding the second level joint.  Is it acceptable to connect the wood framing to the concrete part, or is a seismic joint required?  If I connect it, what forces do I design the connection for?  Where can I find more information on this subject?  Thanks,

RE: How to connect wood diaphragm to concrete slab

You can isolate the two or tie then together.

If you tie them, it's likely the concrete will see the wood framing as a mass load just along for the ride rather than of helpfulness in resolving vertical or lateral loads.
