Old Pro/E, new S/W user with Assembly Drawing prob

Old Pro/E, new S/W user with Assembly Drawing prob

(OP)
Hi,
I'm new to SolidWorks and Forums so bear with me. In a hurry with this one to finish a project and could not find in on the forums.
My question is probably due to Pro/E usage but I'm used to simplified reps and need to do the same in SW (or same as)To be exact I have a large Assembly and want to put different parts of it on Drawing sheets. I have one sub-assembly that I can turn off easily and that may be the answer next time (build sub-assemblies and create a master assembly) but wonder is this how to handle this issue in the future? And is there anyway to easily handle this now?
To answer anyone who may question me about Pro/E verses SW. I Really like Pro/E and have tons of time on it (I was told I had the first working seat on a PC in Tennessee) It is a great product with terrible backing.
I'm working at a new facility and recommended S/W. I have trained myself using S/W Tools in a very short time and love S/W also. At this short time, 2 weeks of usage, I can say I made the right decision going with S/W, here.

Thanks

What you can do is create different Configurations, where selected items are Suppressed, leaving you with what you need to view.  You can create as many Configurations as you need.  Then you can turn these Configurations into the Drawing Views you require.  Check out SW help for further info.

I don't follow your entire post. So maybe if you clarfiy your question a little more as to what your wanting SW to do or what you would like for it to do, that would help.

But what I have made from your statement so far is... if I understand you correctly. You can open the parts separately and place them on sheets within one drawing. You can place sub-assemblies and main assembly there too.

Maybe Configurations is what your looking for. I'm not sure. Maybe some one else understands what your asking ab out.

RE: Old Pro/E, new S/W user with Assembly Drawing prob

What we do is
page 1 full assembly + bom and maybe an exploded view.
page 2 cntl+c on the assembly on pg1 and paste on pg2 , then hide the bits we dont want and orientate it quite simple and the ballons we place on that page match the bom on pg 1.
We found by creating configs of each part or assembly that a lot of time was used in adding notes and annotations as to what each part  was !
was this clear can add more info if needed

Thanks for the prompt replies. I’m not sure about configurations, for reference see Tinkerer’s post. Also I have already had other issues with configurations.

Tinkerer you hit the problem and solution right on the money.

DeSimulacra,

I recently went the other way (from SWX to ProE).  Like you said, both are great programs, both with advantages and disadvantages.

Anyway, I really think you need to look into SWX configurations.  In SWX, family tables, simplified reps, view states, and layers are all grouped into the the capabilities of configurations.

IMO, I like the more general configurations in SWX better than the corresponding functionality in ProE.  It just seems more flexible and less 'dissected.'

OK I admit I’m barely smart enough to get to work in the A.M. without a cup of coffee.  I AM smart enough to listen to those who I ask help from. I went back to configurations and after a little more experimentation got it to work better for me. It will be a great tool for most of our assemblies.Duh
If I may ask one more question pertinent to this thread? Is there a way to quickly “turn-off” or “hide” all components in assembly but the one or two you wish to see (by picking only the components you want)? In Pro that would be a simplifed rep/exclude.

Thx again

LMB the top feature, then <shift>+LMB the last feature, then <ctrl>+LMB the features you want left showing, then RMB in Feature Manager tree & select Hide.
