Chemical Make-up Standard?

Chemical Make-up Standard?

Chemical Make-up Standard?

(OP)
My company uses several different suppliers for galvaneal material. We are seeing inconsistances in the coatings. We did a chemical analysis of each supplier's material and found differences not only in the percentages of each element (which we expected), but also in the elements found. Some had a significant amount of tin, where others had no tin what so ever.
My question is: "Is there a recognized standard for the chemical make up of a galvaneal coating?"
Thank you.

RE: Chemical Make-up Standard?

Hopefully other contributors will have a more detailed answer, but ASTM A653 only requires that the makeup be 99% zinc minimum.  There is no mention of what the 1% can or should be.
