Attachment factor of 1.33 to the seating system

Attachment factor of 1.33 to the seating system

(OP)
Hi guys,

Is there anybody who has a clear idea on the attachment factor of 1.33 in the seat design ?

According to FAR, the factor is required to the attachment of
- seat to the structure
- belt/harness the the seat or the structure

Therefore I understand for example,

- It doesn't have to be applied to the buckle since it's not an attachement in the belt assembly.
- The backwall which holds the shoulder harness fitting has to be substantiated by the ultimate load x 1.33 in analysis.
- etc.

I look forward to getting valuable comments from anybody, especually DER.

Thanks,

kilbchoi

RE: Attachment factor of 1.33 to the seating system

Bear in mind that the shoulder harness need only withstand 40% of the occupant's weight - the rest being applied to the belt.  Otherwise, you sound like you're on the right track.

RE: Attachment factor of 1.33 to the seating system

The safety factor of 1.33 is for separable connections.
So there's no need to use it for the seat itself, but for example for the stud to attach it to the seat rail.
