MOTHER TONGUE
MOTHER TONGUE
(OP)
This is a most interesting forum. English speaking engineers obviously feel deeply (sometimes passionately!) about the use and misuse of English.
There is no doubt in my mind that incorrect or scrappy English, whether written or spoken, puts the writer or speaker at a disadvantage. It's not snobbery, it's a sign of education and a compliment to the listener that you can be bothered to communicate properly.
I thoroughly recommend the book Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson. Amusing, interesting, and as it's written by an Anglophile American, it doesn't step on too many toes.
