How to connect a 6 cables Star Delta motor for a direct start-up

How to connect a 6 cables Star Delta motor for a direct start-up

(OP)
Hello everybody,
a customer of mine has asked me a clear explaination on how to connect a 6 cable Star Delta motor for a direct start-up.

I know how to do it practically but I look for some clear instructions (with drawings?) that might maybe already be found on the net.

Can you give me a hint?

Thank you.
A.

Your motor should have a diagram in it showing the connection patterns for Star and again for Delta. Use only the delta connection pattern. Motor manufacturers sometime bvary with regards to terminal marking etc. so it is best to use the information that came with your motor. If it is lost, contact the manufacturer.

This is easily solved, just use three copper links or crimped single core cables (large enough to carry the phase current = F.L.I / 1.732) to link out the three sets of motor terminals.

I.E connect:-

U1 to V2
V1 to W2
W1 to U2

Hope this helps?

Alan
