GM9540P test cycle correlation

GM9540P test cycle correlation

(OP)
How do you correlate GM9540P test cycles to years of field service in different environments? New RFQ's specify 25 years of corrosion protection to be confirmed by testing in accordance with GM9540P.

RE: GM9540P test cycle correlation

I remember some time ago a study was done to determine which cyclic corrosion test produced results closest to that found on vehicles driven for several years in the field.  At the time the GM 9540P test was considered the optimum test.  Although I cannot find any data to back this claim there is an SAE reference 912284.

And No I do not work for GM.

RE: GM9540P test cycle correlation

Look at SAE paper 970734 and its references.  You may want to consider the test method SAE J2334, which has been found to be the best method to simulate corrosion.

Cory
