UPS Switching Components.

UPS Switching Components.

UPS Switching Components.

(OP)
Hi All,

Does anyone have any details regarding the components used in switching supplies in UPS systems? I have a power-switching application similar to a UPS, but without the need for batteries/charging.

When a 230V ac supply is available, an SMPS provides 28V dc@100A to the system. If the 230V ac becomes unavailable, a secondary external 28V dc supply should be switched in. If the 230V ac becomes available again, then it should switch back.

The 28V dc to the system should not be interrupted when swtiching.

Any help appreciated.

RE: UPS Switching Components.

Suggestion: The UPSs traditionally have one power supply preferred and energy storage that may be considered an alternate power supply. Do not forget that your 28Vdc@100A energy must come from somewhere. Also, UPS do not necessarily have AC output. They may have DC output forming DC UPS. Components and various configurations are available in IEEE Std 242-1986 (Reaffirmed in 1991) IEEE Recommended Practice for Protection and Coordination of Industrial and Commercial Power Systems (Buff Book).
