WHERE TO LOCATE A PRESS ACTUATED WATER REGULATING VALVE

WHERE TO LOCATE A PRESS ACTUATED WATER REGULATING VALVE

WHERE TO LOCATE A PRESS ACTUATED WATER REGULATING VALVE

(OP)
Hi all ,
As ever I see , when puting a regulating flow valve it is done downstream the condenser , or heat exchanger.
As the usually used GLOBE VALVE , it run too when regulating the pump flow.
For a PRESSURE ACTUATED WATER REGULATING VALVE.
There is any reason a valve vendor state it as follow:
"Mount vertically with elbows down, ON THE INLET SIDE of condenser.""

Good Question!
Even though the instructions for  Johnson Controls (Penn) water regulating valves say to mount the valve on the inlet we always mount it on the outlet, thus regulating the flow leaving the condenser (shell & tube). This insures that the shell is full of water at all times during operation.
Besides it seems to be the right way to begin with. Been doing it this way for a very long time.

Oops! upon further reading, the instructions do say its OK to mount the valve (V46 Series) on the outlet if its important to keep the condenser flooded.
Sorry for my oversite

Hi PENNPOINT , I only see the leaftlet on the box , I can not see further info at the vendor site.

Would you please tell me where it is such information.

BTW , this afternoon I talk with the vendor's dealer in my city , and the only razon to state to put at the inlet , is because it is assumend that the water pressure is high enough to fill the circuit , but despite that instruction , he recomend to install down water the condenser.

Except for diverting valves , all regulating valves 2 or 3 way shall be instaled at the outlet.

Thanks for you answer

RE: WHERE TO LOCATE A PRESS ACTUATED WATER REGULATING VALVE

The vendors information could be correct if multiple condensers are connected to the cooling tower. But if its a single connection to a single tower then I believe that the regulating valve should be mounted on the outlet to keep the condenser flooded.

"If it is necessary to keep the condenser flooded with coolant, the valve can be mounted on the outlet side"

Good Luck
