JOURNAL BEARING MIGRATION AND ROTATION

(OP)
EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH MIGRATION AND ROTATION OF INTERFERENCE FIT BUSHES.  NEED TO ESTABLISH CAUSE AND METHOD OF PREDICTING WHICH BUSHES ARE AT RISK.  ANY IDEAS?

RE: JOURNAL BEARING MIGRATION AND ROTATION

There is not a lot of information to go on but this may help.
If the bearing material has a different CTE than its carrier and for any reason there is enough temp variation to cause the OD of the bearing to reduce to less than the ID of the carrier then it can separate from its carrier.
If the bearing material is non metal it will almost certainly have a much greater CTE than its carrier and  if during use it becomes warm the bearing material will expand and there may be sufficient pressure exerted for some compression-set. When the bush is allowed to cool during a period of inactivity then it may shrink from its carrier.

RE: JOURNAL BEARING MIGRATION AND ROTATION

It would help to know housing material, thickness of the housing where the bushing fits, bushing material, lubrication, size of the bushing, size of the pin, rotational speed and pin material. Any of these items can cause problems.
Knowing what the ID and OD of the bushing and the pin look like after failure can also assist in determining cause of failure.
