Breathers and Drains in Hazardous Areas

Breathers and Drains in Hazardous Areas

Breathers and Drains in Hazardous Areas

(OP)
Can anyone enlighten me as to the way that breathers and drains can be installed in hazardous areas without compromising boxes that were otherwise sealed?  Is it acceptable to install a drain and breather in an XP box?  How do they work?  Any references on websites would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ken

RE: Breathers and Drains in Hazardous Areas

Google "protectoseal"

I seem to remember that they had a product that was a breather for XP enclosures.

There are others in the same business, but you can get the key words from the protectoseal site.

Look at this Crouse Hinds catalog page.  They list both drains and breathers for Class 1 Division 1 enclosures.

These items are threaded into the tapped holes in the explosion proof enclosure and provide a method of flame arresting to prevent the ignition of the oustide atmosphere when an explosion occurs within the enclosure.

This may be useful, but NOT for flameproof enclosures.

www.peppers.co.uk

for Ex e, IP66 breathers.
