Design Of Column For Hydrodynamic Loads

Design Of Column For Hydrodynamic Loads

(OP)
Does anyone have any references or a way to design a column for hydrodynamic loads?

RE: Design Of Column For Hydrodynamic Loads

Do you know the hydrodynamic loads or do you need to figure them out?

I need to figure them out

RE: Design Of Column For Hydrodynamic Loads

Hi Mjflorio,

Hydrodynamics implies velocity related forces.  You will need to supply much more information.  Is this column a seawall bolster being pounded by storm surge, or a pitot sensor strut support inside a pipe?  Otherwise, start with  a good college text on incompressible fluid mechanics.

It is a AWWA D100 circular steel tank center column supporting the roof.  I can get the impulsive and convective acclerations from D100, but I was wondering how to apply them to the column.
