puddle welds on roof deck

Does anyone have a picture of what a puddle weld with weld washers 'should' look like on steel roof deck?  I was recently on a site inspection and other than identifying burn through, I couldn't tell a good weld from a mediocre one.  Thanks in advance.

Has no one got a picture or diagram of a puddle weld, or a web address I can go to to see one?

RE: puddle welds on roof deck

I got this response from my contact at Nicholas Bouras.

I am not sure that one can look at a weld through a weld washer from the top side and know that one has a good weld and proper penetration into the support.  Obviously if one taps the side of the washer with a hammer and it flies across the deck sheet, one would not have a good weld.  Proper procedures are discussed in a Modern Steel Construction article from 1988 "How to Fasten Steel Deck - Update and Review" by Heagler and Luttrell. Field quality control tests are presented in AWS D1.3 and in the "SDI Manual of Construction with Steel Deck."  The SDI manual is available for downloading at www.sdi.org.
