Undrained Triaxial test

Undrained Triaxial test

Undrained Triaxial test

(OP)
Need to understand how the results from my test compare with idealised behaviour, the rationalefor my failure envelope and the applicability of laboratory strength parameters in design

RE: Undrained Triaxial test

Please restate your question - with a lot more detail.  Your post is along the lines of, "Please explain gravity."  I don't know where to start -

Please see FAQ731-376 for great suggestions on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips Fora.  See FAQ158-922 for recommendations regarding the question, "How Do You Evaluate Fill Settlement Beneath Structures?"

RE: Undrained Triaxial test

Agree with Focht3.  However, check out Bishop's book on Triaxial Test and the 1960 ASCE volume on Shear Strengths of Cohesive soils (Boulder, CO)that has a classic state of the art paper on triaxial testing and strength.

RE: Undrained Triaxial test

Great reference.

What do you mean by 'idealised behaviour'?  How do you plan to evaluate the data?

Your question, '...the rationale for my failure envelope and the applicability of laboratory strength parameters in design' suggests that you are looking at something other than pile/pier design, or slope stability.  Are you dealing with a large foundation, or below grade wall of some sort?  Please describe.

And please describe your educational background - are you familiar with von Mises et al?  This could get quite technical very fast; we need to understand your background, and where to suggest you begin your study -

RE: Undrained Triaxial test

What is the theory surrounding the undrained triaxial test

RE: Undrained Triaxial test

jimmymuff - again, see the reference I cited earlier.  This is a great state of the art paper (at that time) and is still very applicable.  Also, Bishop wrote a book on Triaxial Testing.
