Anchor Bolt Shear Toward a Free Edge

Anchor Bolt Shear Toward a Free Edge

(OP)
In the March 2004 issue of ACI's "Concrete International" magazine there is an article on pgs. 56-59 entitled "Shear Toward a Free Edge".  The authors describe analizing the shear force transfer from anchor bolts in a SOG near the edge of the slab.  They point out a case where the current requirements in ACI 318-02 Appendix D are overly conservative and unrealistic.

It is an interesting, well written article regarding the required edge distance to fully develop anchor bolt shear strength.  And, it may have some application toward the discussions in this forum regarding hair pin design and location of floor joints.
